Hangzhou

Hangzhou is the Capital of Zhejiang Province, the richest province in China. Companies such as the Alibaba Group, the largest online trading platform in the world (and also the largest IT company in the world) and Wahaha, the Chinese counterpart to Coca-Cola, are based here. The software industry is strongly represented in Hangzhou, e.g. in the field of virtual reality. Many computer-animated Hollywood films also come from computer farms in Hangzhou.

Among the Chinese, however, the city is best known as a tourist destination with the picturesque West Lake (UNESCO World Heritage Site), the Pagoda of the Six Harmonies, the Temple of the Soul's Retreat. Hangzhou is also an important production and trading centre for Chinese silk and for the Dragon Well Tea (Long-Jing Tea), a roasted green tea.

It is also the green lung of neighboring Shanghai, only about 40 minutes away by the new high-speed train.
